  • Alicia and her husband took over the longtime shopping spot on May 1st and renamed it Fortuna Mini Mall near Donut Corral and Bottoms Up Pub. The new mall will host daily indoor pop-ups and offer booths (10 by 10 feet) to help local vendors show their work.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • 14-year-old Darianna Castillo will graduate college after earning a two-year associate's degree from Arizona Western College—she is also set to finish eighth grade at southwest junior high. She earned 64 credits through the Gadsden School District’s early college program and plans to enroll in university when she begins high school.  KYMA
  • K-12 students will join a four-day summer basketball camp from June 2 to June 5 at the AWC Yuma Campus where they learn footwork, ball handling, shooting, defense, and rebounding from the Matadors coaching staff—registration is open now with a discount if pre-registered by May 29.  Arizona Western College
  • La Cosecha will celebrate Arizona Western College students who earned transfer degrees on May 15 at the Schoening Conference Center at the AWC Yuma Campus. Registration begins at 5:45 p.m. + dinner, certificates, a sash and scholarships will follow.  KYMA
  • Arizona Western College will host La Cosecha to honor transfer students on May 15 at the Schoening Conference Center at 2020 S. Ave. 8E; registration begins at 5:45 p.m. with dinner and the program starting at 6:30 p.m.—awardees will receive certificates, commemorative sashes, and scholarships as community members celebrate their success.  Arizona Western College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yuma Border Patrol dismantled a temporary processing facility in Yuma after noting historically low border crossing numbers. The facility, built in 2021 with a capacity over 1,300, cost about $16 million a month+ its removal allows agents to focus on field operations.  KYMA
