COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Father Tamen of St. John Neumann Parish must leave Dec. 26 because his visa renewal is stalled by an application backlog; a second Nigerian priest serving in Kearney will also return while parishioner William Gresser urges contacts in Washington to help secure extended visas (to avoid dangerous conditions in Nigeria).  KYMA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Champion Church in Yuma is set to perform its annual production (Jesus Is Born) from Dec. 19 to Dec. 21 at 7 p.m., bringing the biblical story of Jesus' birth to the stage with a cast and crew of about 200.  KYMA
  • Visit Yuma announced winners for the 2025 Dorothy Young Electric Light Parade held Saturday, Dec. 13 in Yuma — one of the largest local parades. Spectrum won Best Vehicle, Champion Church took Best Float, and Saddles of Joy earned Best Animal Group among over 100 entries.  KYMA
  • Locals began celebrating Hanukkah on Sunday, Dec. 14, gathering to light menorahs, share stories, and exchange small gifts. The festivities continue with six nights remaining — each evening adding another candle to spread light and unity.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College has selected Dr. Reetika Dhawan as its next president + the first woman in the role. She will assume the position next July + planning new workforce development and stronger partnerships.  KYMA

FINANCE NEWS

  • Tonight, the Powerball drawing in Yuma offers an estimated jackpot of $1.25 billion as lottery officials remind players to check tickets + play responsibly; it marks only the second time in history there have been back-to-back billion-dollar prizes and supports state programs funded by ticket sales.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Yuma will notify owners of homes built before 1990 about upcoming water line inspections as required by the EPA to ensure safe drinking water. The city completed over 12,000 inspections this year with no lead issues, so a notice does not mean your water is unsafe.  KYMA
