  • The Somerton Tamale Festival will take place on December 10 and feature over 20 tamale booths, live music, a tamale eating contest, and family-friendly entertainment — sponsorship proceeds will benefit local students heading to ASU.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College Foundation is inviting Yuma residents to donate during its Giving Tuesday campaign to support scholarships and help meet students' basic needs. The foundation aims to raise $10,000 by December 31 — donations made before then are tax-deductible in the new year.  Arizona Western College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 1,500 Arizonans signed a petition pushing for stronger protections for workers facing extreme heat. The Arizona Heat Standards Coalition delivered the petition to Governor Katie Hobbs’ office Tuesday to call for enforceable rules on water, shade and breaks for farmworkers, construction workers and welders — urging immediate steps to prevent heat-related deaths.  KYMA
  • On Tuesday, December 2, the Yuma County Fire Department and Police Department presented the Mental Health Co-Response Unit at a Yuma City Council work session to check up on people experiencing mental crises—officials said the unit will offer critical support during future incidents.  KYMA
