  • Fred and Tucker are two friendly 3-year-old retriever shepherd mixes that arrived at the Humane Society of Yuma together and now get along with other dogs while walking well on a leash; they need a home with plenty of space and are available for adoption—free of charge this week. Visit the shelter at 4050 S. Avenue 4 1/2 E during operating hours for more information.  KYMA
  • Yesterday at 5:00 p.m., Gila Mountain United Methodist Church held a free food drive-thru in Yuma where families received a full take-home plate and registered for a $50 Walmart gift card to support their Thanksgiving meals—organizers urged local volunteers and donors to help those in need.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College Continuing Education in Yuma has announced a Microsoft Office Specialist program that starts December 8 and runs until April 7 — the course offers 180 hours of instruction and exams in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint — tuition assistance is available to those who qualify.  Arizona Western College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yuma County’s bus system YCAT is losing federal funds because local cash covers only about 7% of the required match, forcing the system to return three to five million dollars yearly. Transit director Shelly Kreger said—more local support will let buses run more often and reach more areas as ridership grows.  KYMA
