- ➤ The Yuma community gathered this morning at the 9th annual Breakfast with Champions to raise funds for local Special Olympics athletes + the event was open to the public for the first time. Proceeds will remain in Yuma to cover equipment, uniforms, and transportation + one athlete said she plans to keep competing as long as she can. KYMA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 donated nearly 300 iPads to Colegio de Estudios Cientificos y Tecnologicos de Sonora to help reduce the technology gap for students — the donation supports improved learning across communities. KYMA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday's Homegrown report, University of Arizona researchers explained that they used sweet alyssum to lure thrips away from organic lettuce—a key winter vegetable in Yuma. The team will test three trailers this year, up from one trailer used last year, to see if the method can better protect the crop. KYMA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Yuma County Health Department reported that 37 overdose cases were eligible for review in 2024, three fewer than the previous year — the highest total in the last four years was 56 in 2021. Local groups met to share data and spread awareness so people knew where to get help. KYMA
