- ➤ Ricochet donated five full sets of next-generation M2 Maverick Non-PFAS Turnout Gear to the Yuma Fire Department—one of six departments nationwide chosen to receive the new equipment that will help them fight fires. AZ Family
- ➤ A turkey drive for veterans will be held at Foothills Walmart on November 20 (12-6 p.m.), where donations of turkeys and gift cards will support local veteran organizations in Yuma County with a goal of 100 turkeys. KYMA
- ➤ A local organization will accept Thanksgiving donations Friday, November 21 at the MIKID building at 2891 S. Pacific Avenue—accepted items include non-perishable food cans, turkeys, hams, and rotisserie chicken—to support the Yuma community. KYMA
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Secretary of State came to Yuma to talk about a new mobile business outreach program that will bring notary, partnership, and trademark help closer to local business owners. Yuma City Council member Art Morales and chamber head Carrie Zaragoza said the program will cut the need to travel to Phoenix or Tucson and will return on December 11—providing key services to help businesses grow. - ➤ House of Fire comedy open mic night is set for December 20 at Lost Traveler MHP RV Park—sign ups begin at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. with five-minute sets and $5 tickets for adults. KYMA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Kofa High School, two teachers were surprised when they received grants from the Wishes for Teachers program by the Palo Verde Fiesta Sports Foundation—social worker Martha Remenar got $2,500 to expand her care closet and teacher Zayda Duenas also received funds, while the program awarded grants to 540 educators across Arizona this year. - ➤ Yuma high school social worker Martha Remanar was surprised on Monday when the Wishes for Teachers program—by the Palo Verde Fiesta Sports Foundation—awarded her a $2,500 grant to help provide more resources at Kofa High School. Dozens of educators in Yuma County are among the record 540 teachers receiving grants across Arizona this year. KYMA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Bureau of Land Management Colorado River District will burn cleared vegetation at Senator Wash North Shore to reduce wildfire spread and improve outdoor recreation access. Workers will burn the piles when weather conditions are safe—access to the area will be restricted and the burns may occur repeatedly until the end of the year. KYMA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The San Luis city council in Mexico said that border crossing delays were caused by budget problems, leaving the Mexican side without a start date. The U.S. side is on track to finish next year—while disruptions to trade, tourism, and daily travel for border residents are expected. KYMA
