- ➤ The Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma hosted a luncheon today at Yuma Golf and Country Club to honor local individuals for their philanthropic work — award winners include Danny Bryant of First Bank Yuma as Philanthropist of the Year and City Councilmember Arturo Morales Jr. as the Spirit of Service Award recipient. - ➤ The Desert Difference Ag Tech Conference started yesterday at 7:00 a.m. with booths and demos that let local growers test new ag equipment in Yuma’s harsh conditions—today the event continues with more technology showcases that include international exhibitors. KYMA
- ➤ Lutes Casino hosted a free live music event Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 221 Main St — a portion of its sales went to the Yuma Center for Spiritual Living. KYMA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The AWC Visual and Performing Arts department has invited the community to two free winter concerts on November 19th and November 24th; the Jazz Ensemble will perform Blue November at the AWC Theater and the Community Band will present Holiday Flourishes at the 3C Schoening Conference Center—donations benefit AWC scholarships. - ➤ San Luis will host its 14th Film Festival from November 18 to 20 — screenings will take place at PPEP Tec High School in the Cesar Chavez Learning Center and a food drive will accept canned goods, rice, and other donations. KYMA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a 46-day shutdown, the government has reopened but recovery has been slow—Yuma Community Food Bank reported an 80% rise in people asking for assistance. President Andy Robinson said delays in paycheck releases may last weeks—perhaps even months as operations resume and locals see the timing as helpful before Thanksgiving. KYMA
