CULTURE NEWS

  • Arizona Western College premiered 'Eurydice' at the Yuma campus theater on October 30th and will show the play on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.—the production retells a classic myth from Eurydice’s view with special tech effects and a tribute to an AWC student, with opening night proceeds going to the Trevor Project.  KYMA
  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show returned to Yuma at the Historic Yuma Theatre — live actors added creative twists with glitter and fishnets that energized the performance. Anthony Vo and Mack Schwitzing led the cast as they refreshed this cult classic for local theatergoers.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College will attend the HACU conference in Aurora from October 31st to November 3rd where college leaders and students share ideas to boost Hispanic student success. The college plans for Dr. Reetika Dhawan to speak and for first-generation students to join the ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute—showing its commitment to better education.  Arizona Western College
  • Yuma High School District announced its ADE letter grades for the 2024-25 school year with Gila Ridge and San Luis High Schools earning A grades while Cibola, Kofa, Vista, and Yuma High Schools received B grades—these grades reflect factors such as ACT scores, graduation rates, and college readiness. Superintendent Tim Brienza said the results show improved performance and a notable reduction in the dropout rate since 2021.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The government shutdown could cut off food and supplies from the WIC program, which serves about 145,000 people in Arizona—if no funds are allocated by November 15. Celia Nabor from the Department of Health Services warned that ending the benefits will hurt families and local grocery stores—adding pressure to the community economy.  KYMA
