COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Homeward Bound Animal Rescue in Yuma cares for over 40 cats and is asking the community to adopt, donate monthly, or volunteer in order to keep the shelter open—donations help pay for medical care and spaying or neutering rescued cats. A recent success is Rose, who came in with behavior problems and now has a loving home that shows every rescue makes a difference.  KYMA
  • Wheezy's Restaurant and What's Up Yuma have teamed up to support families hit by the government shutdown by offering free meals, where furloughed workers get tea and coffee and children on SNAP receive pasta and pancakes with valid cards—local supporters have also contributed by buying meals for those in need.  KYMA
  • Bubba's 33 in Yuma will serve a free Veteran's Day lunch to military Veterans (active, retired, or former) at 1632 S. Fourth Avenue from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 11; Veterans must bring proof of service. Those who cannot attend will receive raincheck vouchers (valid through May 31, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to noon) for a future meal.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College will host First Gen College Celebration Week from November 3 to November 6 to honor first-generation college students from Yuma and La Paz Counties—around 60% of its student population. The week will include events such as student and alumni panels, a financial literacy session, a job fair, and a Financial Aid and Family Night on November 6 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Yuma Campus Matador Activity Center.  Arizona Western College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Captain Paul Evancho has served with the Yuma Fire Department for over 30 years—starting in the reserves in 1993—and will retire on Friday, October 31st. He has filled many roles and said helping others drove his work every day.  KYMA
