- ➤ Somerton will host its annual UTV showdown on October 18 from 4:30 p.m. to midnight when Main Street closes for a community event featuring UTVs, live music, food vendors, a kids area, and a chilada contest — special guests include Corey Exotics, Tommy Sabala, and Ford, and the event is free. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gadsden Elementary School District board members Liliana Arroyo and Luis Marquez face a recall on November 4 for accusations of poor community communication and mistreatment—both claim the allegations are false as Yuma County voters now begin receiving their ballots by mail. This election will determine if public trust in local leadership is maintained. KYMA
- ➤ During Fire Prevention Week, Yuma Fire Department warns residents that faulty Lithium-ion batteries in devices such as phones—laptops, e-bikes, and power tools can overheat quickly and emit toxic fumes if not charged with the proper charger or recycled responsibly. KYMA
- ➤ After receiving a grant over $400,000 for its safe streets for all project, the City of Yuma is seeking public comment on road improvements to reduce crashes. Officials will review ideas on road locations, speed limits, and crash types — and a virtual meeting is scheduled for October 20. KYMA
