- ➤ The 4th Annual Fall Fest will take place at the Yuma County Fairgrounds from October 17 to 19, with gates opening at noon and offering events such as a hedge maze, demolition derby, pumpkin carving, live music, food vendors and carnival rides—admission is $7 with free entry for kids under 5. - ➤ The YFD responded to two fire calls this week when automatic sprinkler systems controlled the blazes—on October 4 at 2:20 p.m. at a business on S. Florence Lane and early Tuesday at 4:00 a.m. at an apartment complex on W. 22nd Place and 35th Avenue with no injuries reported. KYMA

- ➤ During fire prevention week, the Yuma Fire Department warns that lithium ion batteries in phones, laptops, e-bikes, and power tools can overheat and catch fire if not charged with the proper charger or recycled correctly—experts say a fire may ignite in just 20 to 30 seconds, exposing people to burns and toxic fumes. - ➤ The City of Yuma is asking residents for ideas to improve road safety following a $400 thousand grant—residents can join a virtual public meeting on October 20 to share suggestions. City officials will review crash locations, posted speed limits, and crash types to make changes that reduce accidents. KYMA
- ➤ On Monday morning, the Yuma City Council adopted a resolution to oppose the permanent transfer of Colorado River water to Queen Creek. Council members said that increasing the transfer from 1,000 to 2,000 acre feet per year could harm agriculture, electric power from Lake Powell and Lake Mead — and they urged the Department of Water Resources to ensure enough water and power for everyone. - ➤ Recent storms delayed Yuma County's Smucker Park construction project, which will add a new storm drain system, replace the sanitary sewer, build an embankment and install a pump station for park irrigation. The contractor is now installing the remaining storm drain pipe sections (at 28th street and West Ridge Drive) and the Avenue A improvements will start once all park work is complete. KYMA
- ➤ Today, the City of Yuma is offering sandbags ahead of possible rain, available for pickup at the Yuma Civic Center (1440 W. Desert Hills Drive) at 10 a.m.; the self-serve station is limited to five per vehicle and will remain open until further notice. KYMA
- ➤ In Tuesday's report, the Yuma Agricultural Center detailed its 12-year-old insect trapping network that monitors pests such as worms, thrips, aphids, and whiteflies as an early warning system for unusual pest spikes. The center is set to expand the network into Mexico—Dr. Samuel Discua Duarte said this will help local agencies stay alert. KYMA
