  • On Sunday, October 12, a walk will be held in San Luis, Arizona to support migrants and end with a mass in San Luis, Mexico. The bishops of Tucson and Mexicali have organized the event as part of Migrants and Refugees Week+ church shelters also serve meals daily to help migrants.  KYMA

CRIME NEWS

  • A TikTok video alerted locals to dozens of abandoned dogs living in deplorable conditions at a home, and after the Humane Society with Homeward Bound Animal Rescue recovered 26 dogs—the Yuma County Sheriff's Office filed an animal cruelty case against the owner—the team is working to rescue the remaining 5 to 7 dogs.  KYMA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arizona Western College Community Band will hold its first fall concert on Monday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the 3C Schoening Center at the AWC Yuma Campus—donations for music scholarships will be accepted at the free event.  Arizona Western College

  • Researchers from the University of Arizona and Czech startup Ulmanna are developing a weed spraying machine that uses artificial intelligence—field tests will begin this fall on desert farms—to target unwanted plants with centimeter level accuracy.  KYMA

  • On September 23, Arizona Western College hosted a town hall where six state legislators reviewed impacts from the legislative session—discussing local changes in water, education, and healthcare.
