BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Best Taquito opened its second location on Friday, September 5 at Eddie’s Food and Drink in San Luis — local fans and the owner, Alma Ornelas, celebrated the milestone as the restaurant expands off Avenue E and County 24th 1/2 Street to serve more of Yuma County.  KYMA

CRIME NEWS

  • The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Almond Avenue—8th Street on Friday, September 5 and found 24-year-old Michael Patrick Reiter with serious injuries; he was taken to Onvida Health and later flown to a Phoenix hospital where he died.  KYMA
  • A Calexico man, 48 year old Agustine Baca, who was accused of murdering his 29 year old girlfriend last September, is heading to trial after a judge found enough evidence on August 20th—he will appear in court on September 23 after being arrested by Yuma Police Department and could face up to 50 years to life if firearm charges are confirmed.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Yuma held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Engineering Department for its new Traffic Management Center (TMC), which will monitor traffic and adjust signals in real time.  KYMA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local dad and mental health advocate Keith Francis started the Yuma Adult Flag Football group three years ago when he could not find an adult league—his program now draws 80 players per season and teams travel in-state for cash prize tournaments; football coach Armando Mosqueda praised the strong community built by the league.  KYMA
