CRIME NEWS

  • Imperial County deputies found 34-year-old September Lee Weisinger dead on Ferguson Road near Senator Wash in Winterhaven on June 30—an arrest warrant had been issued on September 2 for a 56-year-old man from Yuma who was arrested on First Avenue and is being extradited—with details still limited.  KYMA
  • 67-year-old Rogelio Sanchez crashed his pickup truck into a Border Patrol checkpoint in Yuma and injured two agents—he will appear in court on September 30 to receive his sentence after pleading guilty to attempted aggravated assault.  KYMA
  • A 24-year-old man was arrested on September 3 at 2:05 a.m. on Fortuna Road after he stole items including ammunition and firearms from vehicles during dove hunting season—visitors confronted and held him until deputies arrived.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ADOT is planning to improve Highway 95 near Yuma Proving Ground by adding roundabouts at the Imperial Dam Road—Aberdeen Road intersections and widening Martinez Lake Road while fixing pavement. YPG will temporarily move two large artillery pieces and its welcome sign so work can begin in early 2026 and last about 14 months.  KYMA
  • The Town of Wellton is set to distribute sand and sandbags for residents today in preparation for storms—sand is available every weekday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the town property on Los Angeles Avenue and Helen Street.  KYMA

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Yuma County Health Department will end its SNAP ED program on September 30 as federal funding is cut—this move will cause five job losses and stop school programs that teach healthy eating and exercise. Local leaders urge residents to volunteer and help support the work lost with the funding cut.  KYMA
