COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yuma's NBCUniversal Local's Clear The Shelters campaign has returned for its 11th year and runs from August 1 through August 31 with fundraising extending until September 15—over 1,600 animal shelters and rescues are partnering nationwide to help more pets find new homes.  KYMA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A severe storm damaged power equipment and caused outages affecting nearly 2,000 customers in Yuma—APS said crews are working to restore power in areas from County 10th Street to 18th Avenue and from 8th Street to Avenue 3E.  KYMA
  • Firefighters are battling a brush fire near Dome Valley east of Yuma caused by lightning while Rural Metro fire crews responded at 4:00 a.m. Saturday to a structure fire at a commercial building in western construction components and contained the blaze before it caused further damage with no injuries reported.  KYMA

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18 year old man was arrested on Sunday near Love of Grace Church at the intersection of S. Avenue C and W. Linda Lane after deputies responded to a call about a firearm shooting that left spent casings on the road and damaged a home—he faces charges including aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct with a weapon and criminal damage.  KYMA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After more than two decades of drought, Colorado River water levels have dropped to historic lows, affecting Yuma farms and the 180,000 acres of local farmland—negotiators from seven states plan to finalize a water-sharing agreement early next year to secure the resource for everyone.  KYMA
