  • The Children's Museum of Yuma County launched the Be the Bug playground funded by Fort Yuma Rotary which gives local children a safe air-conditioned space to play. Fort Yuma Rotary raised $100,000 from community events and donations to complete the project.  KYMA
  • Fort Yuma Rotary will unveil the new indoor playground Be the Bug at the Children's Museum of Yuma County at 5:00 p.m. Saturday after raising $100,000—residents can look forward to a fun play area for local children.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School Resource Officers finished their first week on campus and kept students safe during drop-offs and pick-ups while managing traffic issues—Cassandra Reed urged parents to follow school zone speed limits. The officers also serve as mentors to help build positive ties between students and the community.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. officials added Mexicali Valley to the high-risk travel list due to rising violent crime & evidence of cartel activity near Yuma, with local leaders noting over 500 murders in the past four years and travelers now reevaluating their border trips.  KYMA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health experts released updated blood pressure guidelines that call for starting treatment earlier and cutting back on alcohol—revising previous limits to less than one drink for women and less than two for men while recommending total abstinence as best practice. The changes also emphasize the importance of blood pressure control in lowering dementia risk and protecting pregnant women.  KYMA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Housing America Corporation received a $7,500 grant from Farmers Insurance to support its financial literacy programs and free homeownership counseling services with no waiting list at its local office. Executive Director Yolanda Galindo said the funding will help residents learn how to manage their finances and prepare for homeownership.  KYMA
