ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A family on West 19th Street saw their trailer suffer several thousand dollars in damage from a fire Monday evening — firefighters kept the structure from total loss while the residents are seeking at least $3000 for repairs and replacement of their personal items. KYMA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ West Side Story, an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet set in 1950’s New York, is coming to Yuma Historic Theatre as presented by the Yuma Community Theatre teen program with 30 actors and three technicians (the young cast rehearsed for six weeks this summer). It will perform today at 7 p.m., on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. (tickets cost $15) while stage manager Katie Drewek said the show conveys that hate ends badly. KYMA
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Elevate Southwest is launching a new STEM ecosystem in Yuma that includes a 60,000-square-foot research building and a 65-acre innovation park — a plan set to create about 1,500 jobs over the next 15 years. The project partners with local colleges to give students hands-on experience in fields like aerospace and clean energy. KYMA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yuma County has enacted new rules at transfer stations that ban hazardous waste and oversized items and limit drop-offs to one load per day—county officials say the guidelines protect staff and reduce illegal dumping.
