CRIME NEWS

  • Between May 29 and July 9, YPD recorded a rise in car break-ins in neighborhoods such as Saguaro, Sheffield, and Ocotillo Estates; officers booked a 35-year-old man+37-year-old woman on charges of third-degree burglary+theft of credit cards and fraudulent use, and the investigation remains open.  KYMA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Yesterday, the U.S. government imposed a 17% tariff on most fresh Mexican tomatoes to boost domestic production — American growers support the move while critics warn that the duty may raise prices for consumers as Mexico now supplies about 70% of U.S. tomatoes. The tariff follows years of disputes over trade practices and comes amid ongoing concerns about market impacts.  AZ Family

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Marine Corps confirmed Monday that Marines and sailors took control of a portion of the southern border in Yuma as part of a new National Defense Area— they will work with Customs and Border Protection and Border Patrol to help reduce migrant crossings and secure the border.  KYMA
