CRIME NEWS

  • 51-year-old Mubarak Prince, accused of shooting at a YCSO helicopter, had his bail reduced on Tuesday from $1 million to $150,000 and must follow pre-trial conditions that require him to stay in Arizona and give up any deadly weapons.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yuma County is working to clear over 440,000 tires from its facility by using an extra $200,000 from last fiscal year and anticipating $850,000 from the state to remove the remainder; officials are exploring long-term fixes like a tire shredder to lower disposal costs. The county has also updated its tire drop-off rules so residents can bring up to five tires for free each year (a measure to reduce the waste buildup).  KYMA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health officials in Yuma say an excessive heat warning remains in effect as temperatures could hit 116 degrees in the city and up to 118 degrees in the Imperial Valley—residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid extended outdoor exposure, and take extra care if they use certain medications or lack proper shelter. Cooling centers are open across the area to help those needing relief from the heat.  KYMA
  • Yuma Cardiac CT opened Tuesday, July 8 — a new center using 4D imaging with 5,560 slices resolution to help doctors diagnose the heart, brain, aorta and blood vessels. It is located on Avenue A and 24th street.  KYMA
