CRIME NEWS

  • A 39 year old man was arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping after robbing a clerk at the Circle K at 2409 S. 8th Avenue on May 27 around 12:50 a.m. and fleeing in a white Ford Expedition—his truck was later found at another Circle K on 2505 W. 8th Street at about 7:29 p.m.—after he drove off with a 10 year old girl, and he is now held at Imperial County Jail with no injuries reported.  KYMA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Colorado River State Historic Park unveiled its new exhibit—'The Colorado River: lifeblood of the Yuma community'—which explains the Bureau of Reclamation's role in water management and shows how local irrigation districts and water rights shape our region. Park Manager Tammy Snook said the installation, funded by the Arizona Community Foundation, highlights the river's support for our drinking water and agriculture.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College honored TRIO students—first-generation and low-income learners—in graduation ceremonies held in Yuma on May 8 at Rococo Events and Banquet Hall and in Parker on May 21, recognizing both academic achievements and program contributions.  Arizona Western College
  • Yuma Police Department Officer Cassandra Reed won the 2025 Law Related Education Officer of the Year award after serving as the resource officer at Ron Watson Middle School for three years. She said she loves building strong bonds with students — a point that both the school and students appreciate.  KYMA

  • Z Fun Factory and Waylon's Water World are planning summer specials as the water park will host a Junior Lifeguard Camp for kids ages 9—17 from June 30 to July 2 to learn water safety, CPR and first aid. In June, admission will be $29.99 with a $10 arcade card for kids under 18, and on July 4 food, drinks and admission will be on sale while Z Fun Factory offers additional specials all summer.  KYMA
