- ➤ United Cerebral Palsy of Souther Arizona started building a new two-story facility (over 24,000 sqft) today in Yuma to expand disability services and better meet community needs; local leaders and Pilkington Construction support the project. KYMA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Chiara, the valedictorian at Yuma Catholic, moved from Mexico mid eighth grade and now leads a graduating class that earned over $23.8M in scholarships (more than 100 students also received associate degrees through a dual enrollment with Arizona Western College). She plans to study biology at Boston College this fall. KYMA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ University experts said an unusually warm winter allowed whiteflies to thrive in Yuma melon fields, sparking an early virus outbreak that may weaken crop quality; experts will meet on June 2 to plan a response & management strategies. AZ Family
- ➤ Fire crews reached 70% containment on the Mittry Fire, which burned 184 acres near Mittry Lake, east of the Colorado River + adjacent to Yuma Proving Ground. Officials warn interior hot spots will continue to produce smoke in the coming days. KYMA
