- ➤ Yuma is set to get a new indoor sports and community center as the old Sears building becomes the Desert Paddle and Pickleball Club—an 89,000 square-foot facility with 11 pickleball and six paddle courts, dining, and event spaces; the project is in development and may open as early as next year. - ➤ Chloe Comet, a sophomore at Yuma Catholic High School, was nominated to be a delegate at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, which will run from June 25th to June 27th at the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus—an honors-only program for high school students interested in medicine. - ➤ The Western Arizona Council of Governments said it will stop accepting new clients in Yuma and Mohave counties because of funding cuts, leaving over 200 seniors waiting for critical services like home-delivered meals and home care. Senior Program Manager Carol Brown warned that the gap in support may force some older adults to rely on state programs—an outcome that could raise costs as the region’s senior population grows.
