- ➤ Tacos Marlyn in Yuma was named Arizona Women-Owned Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration, recognizing the restaurant for its dedication to quality food and support for local businesses (the honor recognizes a total of nine small businesses statewide). KYMA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Quechan Casino Resort will host summer tribute concerts in Winterhaven featuring tribute bands for Bon Jovi, Ozzy and Journey. The series includes shows on Saturday, June 20; Friday, August 21; and Friday, September 18 at 8 p.m. for ages 21 and over. KYMA
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A call center in San Luis is set to close, with shutdown beginning in July and full closure by August, affecting 232 local jobs. Mayor Riedel said the company is working with employees for unemployment benefits (and training) while the city searches for a new tenant for the building acquired in 2008. KYMA

- ➤ Teacher Kevin Padilla from Cesar Chavez Elementary in San Luis has been accepted into the STEAM Germany Program and will travel to Germany to learn about innovative educational and sustainable methods that he will bring back to his classroom. KYMA

- ➤ Low Colorado River water levels have alarmed Yuma residents who depend on the river for agriculture and recreation. Gov. Hobbs visited Yuma recently and urged talks to prevent deeper water cuts — adjustments at upstream dams may bring temporary relief. AZ Family

- ➤ CBP reminds travelers crossing the border to declare all plants and flowers as Mother's Day weekend draws near. The agency said screenings by agriculture specialists are required to protect U.S. crops + local agriculture. KYMA

- ➤ Last Saturday, May 2, the Yuma County Nurses Foundation held its annual Nurses in the Spotlight gala at Quechan Casino Resort to honor over 60 nurses for their care, leadership, and teamwork. Award winners included Briana Smith, Ha'Ani Patchen, and Kristin Parra. KYMA
