  • Imperial County Sheriff's Office arrested a teen for making a social media school shooting threat at San Pasqual school after a tip from Quechan Police Department (QPD) led investigators to search a Winterhaven home that found no weapons.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabeth Cooley, a former teacher turned agriculture book author, visited a local school to share how a drive by an AG field in Yuma inspired her book Deserts Grow Veggies, which explains the importance of local farming. She will hold a book signing at Barnes and Noble on May 10 — an event that aims to get children excited about agriculture.  KYMA
  • Nearly 30 nursing students at Arizona Western College in Yuma were inducted into the Organization of Associate Degree Nurses Honor Society—recognizing academic excellence and community service. More inductees will join after the first semester next year.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 7, Yuma residents were required to use REAL IDs or other accepted forms of identification when boarding flights or entering federal facilities + the TSA no longer accepted noncompliant state-issued IDs at security checkpoints.  KYMA

  • The American Cancer Society will host the Relay for Life Survivor & Caregiver Gala on June 1 at 274 S Main Street, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and dinner starting at 6 p.m. Relay for Life of Yuma County has raised over $100,000 toward its 2025 goal as the event honors cancer survivors & pays tribute to their families and friends with a silent auction and accepted donations.  KYMA
