- ➤ Arilene Gaxiola, an eighth-grade math teacher from San Luis Middle School, was named National Teacher of the Year by Teachers of Tomorrow and will receive up to $5,000 to expand hands-on math learning (an honor that recognizes her extra dedication) in Yuma County. KYMA
- ➤ The Freedom Library hosted its 30th Annual Awards Forum Tuesday night and awarded local students with academic scholarships and travel opportunities while promoting respectful dialogue; retired Army Captain Barry D. Todd stressed the importance of civic conversation during the event. KYMA
- ➤ Arizona Western College will award 3,200 degrees and certificates at its commencement on May 15 at Veterans Memorial Stadium (7150 E. 24th Street next to Gila Ridge High School) and will feature student Jeff Kleinwachter as speaker, marking a milestone for graduates in Yuma and La Paz counties.
