  • At the Yuma Humane Society, puppies needing a second chance come in daily as the shelter marks Animal Cruelty Prevention Month—director Annette Lagunas said they aim to raise awareness about neglect and encourage residents to donate, foster or adopt.   • Families gathered Friday at 2363 S. Kennedy Lane for the free 'Celebrate the Child' fair that focused on child abuse prevention and family support and offered food, games, music, and booths providing mental health and parenting guidance.   • On Thursday morning the Xi Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority established its second scholarship endowment worth $6,000 to support students at the local community college—chapter president Anne Booth said the donation helps those without college opportunities.   • Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents warned that migrants crossing the Arizona desert illegally face deadly risks as they average five arrests per day and struggle to carry enough water or find safe paths+ rescue teams have placed 20 beacons in remote areas and rescued 19 people so far.  AZ Family
