ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rural Metro Fire responded to a garage fire after 3:00 p.m. Monday in the East Del Rico area of Mesa Del Sol—three fire trucks, one water tanker, one medical unit and one battalion chief arrived, the garage was lost while the house stayed intact and no injuries were reported.  KYMA
  • A house fire on East Estrella Lane near South Kennedy Lane left one person injured and one cat dead at about 12:30 p.m.—firefighters battled the flames from outside before moving in to treat the injured resident while investigators continue to determine the cause.  KYMA
  • Yuma Police confirmed that at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday a woman driving a 2016 Ford Explorer with her 18 month old son attempted a left turn onto Avenue 6E near East 32nd Street and collided with a 2015 Nissan Rogue driven by Ismael Castro, a 72 year old, resulting in the deaths of him and his 69 year old wife Raquel while the woman and her son sustained minor injuries — alcohol was not a factor in the crash.  KYMA

CRIME NEWS

  • Yuma police arrested 33-year-old Mauricio Elias Robles after he allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old man to death near Avenue A—First Street late Sunday night, and he is now facing three felony charges including first-degree murder.  AZ Family
  • An 18-year-old Yuma man, Keith Simmons, who faces four felony counts including two aggravated assault charges for allegedly shooting a 19-year-old man in a desert area near South Avenue 8 and a half E last August, is in out-of-court negotiations with both the state and the victim’s family—his next court appearance is set for May 16.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona Western College Director of Content Strategy and Development Sarah Herman was named the 2025 National Communicator of the Year by the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations on April 14. She is the first from her college to receive the national honor—following her prior district award—and has spent over a decade advancing college communications.  Arizona Western College

  • Border Patrol agents rescued two stranded hikers in remote parts of Southern Arizona—one found near the Superstition Mountains with a possible broken ankle was airlifted for treatment while another lost for two days near Pauline Ridge was reached on foot and brought for medical care.  KYMA
