- ➤ Recovery Palooza returns for its 14th annual free event, offering local families food, drinks, music and activities in Yuma. It will be held at Carver Park — 398 S. 13th Avenue — on May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. KYMA
- ➤ Somerton city leaders approved renaming Cesar Chavez Avenue to Campesinos Avenue to honor local farmworkers who work long hours and support the town's growth. Residents feel the new name will recognize the vital role agriculture plays in the community. KYMA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Grandmaster Luis Larios (a pioneer in self-defense) built his famed Larios System from childhood struggles and has run a dojo in Yuma for decades, teaching self-defense to locals of all ages. Now 70, he continues mentoring youth and inspiring community members. KYMA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Members of Yuma and La Paz communities are invited to attend candidate forums on April 16 and April 20 at the AWC Yuma Campus Matador Activity Center to meet the five finalists for the Executive Vice President position, who will present plans to improve workforce development & career technology offerings. - ➤ Today, Vista High School students joined a yoga and meditation class provided by Tranquility and Wellness Studio + The Travis Manion Foundation to learn holistic health and stress management. Volunteer Dale Dumo and coach Veronica Bombgarner explained how unplugging from social media helps improve well-being. KYMA
- ➤ Church for the City hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new kids academy, marking its first full year of operation and increased access to accessible+affordable childcare in Yuma county as the school plans to eventually serve children through 8th grade. KYMA
