BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local family-owned restaurant J.T. Bros opened in a restored building near 26th Street on Thursday. Chef Alex Trujillo said the restaurant offers sandwiches, salads, steaks, and pasta and will hold its grand opening celebration on Saturday at 11 a.m. with free sandwiches for the first 100 guests.  KYMA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yuma will host a Star-Spangled Celebration at Desert Sun Stadium on Saturday, April 18 from 3-11 p.m.—tickets cost $25 plus taxes and fees while children 12 and under are free, and the event will feature a patriotic drone show and performances by Randy Houser, Parmalee, and Yuma native Bobby McClendon.  KYMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Yuma students, ages 11 and 13, will earn associate degrees from Arizona Western College this May – they have been accepted at Northern Arizona University before starting high school.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IRS is phasing out paper refund checks and ending its Direct File program, and taxpayers filing without bank account details may see delays in receiving refunds; returns or extension requests must be submitted by Wednesday, Apr. 15 (deadline).  KYMA
