- ➤ Route 66, established on Nov. 11, 1926, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Several states along the highway, including our local stretch in Arizona, plan events to honor its cultural legacy (historic markers have been installed). KYMA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yuma Proving Ground completed tests of parachutes for Orion’s Capsule to ensure safe reentry for the upcoming Artemis II mission. Officials including pilot Victor Glover say the tests show the facility’s key role in space exploration * supporting future moon flights. KYMA
- ➤ Community leaders joined a live WTI training exercise today at MCAS Yuma to experience firsthand the realistic tactics elite marines use for emergency response. The event highlights a long-term partnership between the military and local officials (supporting community ties) that fuels ongoing collaboration. KYMA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Amberly’s Place (serving over 3,000 survivors) offers 24-hour crisis intervention, emergency assistance, and legal advocacy during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April in Yuma County. Tori Bourguignon said the safe space empowers local community members to access help when needed. KYMA
- ➤ Laura Rosenwald, an NPMA entomologist, advised residents today to eliminate fly attractants by securing open windows, trimming vegetation, and removing standing water. Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines noted that a UA study (from 2017) linked warmer winters and solid waste buildup to a rise in fly populations. KYMA
