EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 5, over 70 fifth graders from James B. Rolle Elementary School visited AWC to participate in a mock orientation, attend mini classes by volunteer professors, enjoy campus lunch, and receive college-bound T-shirts. The event inspired young students to imagine a future in higher education.  Arizona Western College

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new Master Irrigator Program will train Yuma farmers and students to use water-saving tools (including soil moisture sensors and automated gate systems) starting soon; it partners with the Yuma County Cooperative Extension and Arizona Game and Fish Department to curb waste and protect crops from wildlife damage.  KYMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Katie Hobbs signed new law (House Bill 2938) that allows Yuma stores to round cash totals to the nearest five cents. The law applies to cash payments only while credit and debit transactions require exact amounts.  KYMA
  • The ACLU Foundation of San Diego and Imperial Counties launched a hotline for Imperial County residents to report federal law enforcement misconduct today. Callers can submit reports online or call 760-645-9335 to report suspected First Amendment or Fourth Amendment violations and receive a reply within 24 hours.  KYMA
