- ➤ American Veterans Service Organization—formerly known as AMVETS—continues to hold Tuesday meetings with veterans for paperwork help while it recovers from a fire that destroyed its Yuma building; manager June Condon said lost equipment is being replaced as the group plans to reopen soon though recovery may take up to two months. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 20-year-old Jose Lopez faces two counts of first degree murder for shooting 20-year-old Ande Blackthunder and 19-year-old Danny Garcia at a house party; closing arguments began Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and the jury will deliver a verdict later this week. KYMA
- ➤ A suspect drove a stolen Corvette and led border patrol agents on a high-speed chase on highway 111 — the car reached speeds of 150 mph before tire deflation slowed it — and he fled toward Mexico where he was arrested and now faces charges including receiving stolen property and unlawful driving. - ➤ The AWC Pep Band will perform its first patio concert of the spring semester on Tuesday, March 25 at the 3C Building Patio outside the Starbucks on the AWC Yuma Campus. The free event invites passersby to enjoy live music and pleasant spring weather. Arizona Western College
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arizona Western Entrepreneurial College will offer a certification in HR Management this April to boost career prospects and earning potential. In-person classes at the Reskilling and Technology Center run Fridays from April 11 to May 23 between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and online courses run Monday to Thursday from April 7 to May 19 between 4:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. — interested parties should contact the Continuing Education department. - ➤ Gary A. Knox Elementary School in Yuma hosted its third annual AG Day where preschool to sixth grade students learned about various aspects of agriculture—experts showcased their skills while students engaged in hands-on projects. - ➤ Yuma residents planning to fly this summer must get the federally approved Arizona Travel ID—found on driver's licenses and identification cards and costing $25 for eight years—by May 7 to avoid travel delays. KYMA
- ➤ Today, Yuma County Sheriff's Office is offering a free vacation home watch program for winter visitors+ the program has volunteers patrol homes for any suspicious activity. Winter visitor Dick Evanson has already registered+ and residents are advised to secure their property by locking doors and windows and notifying a trusted neighbor. KYMA
