CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pre-Symposium Day at AWC will offer free previews from four presenters at the Yuma Art Symposium on Thursday, Feb. 19 at AWC Art Gallery (Room 110, AB Building on campus). Some artists will join a reception from 11:45 to 12:30 to answer public questions. Arizona Western College
- ➤ Children’s Festival of the Arts is set for April 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Yuma Art Center – the free event will give children live performances, food vendors, and community booths while they explore art inspired by all 50 states, national monuments, and U.S. presidents. KYMA
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Arizona Public Service requested a 14% to 16% rate increase that could add about $240 a year for residential electricity (the Arizona Corporation Commission will decide on the proposal soon). KYMA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kofa High School's HOSA team earned first place in the Community Awareness event at the Regional Leadership Conference, drawing attention to its pesticide education project (Beyond the Harvest) that informs local farmers and residents. They will compete at the state level in April. KYMA
- ➤ The Arizona Western College Foundation announced that current and incoming students can apply for scholarships from Feb.15 to Apr.1, with awards announced by the end of May; volunteers to review applications are needed in April. Arizona Western College

- ➤ The Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo is hosting its Buckin for Bridget campaign to raise funds for breast cancer support. The event offers merch sales & a saddle raffle with proceeds donated to Bridget's Gift, and spectators are encouraged to wear yellow or gold on Friday and pink on Saturday. KYMA
