- ➤ The City of Yuma held its annual career fair this morning at the Yuma Civic Center, offering residents insight into job openings, compensation, and career paths. Representatives from Public Works, Police & Fire Departments, Parks and Rec, and Utilities explained available opportunities. KYMA
- ➤ Arizona Western College Health and Wellness is hosting the Heart and Healthy Relationships Fair with free workshops on physical and relational health. It will be held in Yuma on Feb. 11, in Parker on Feb. 12, and in San Luis on Feb. 18. Arizona Western College
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Village Jazz Series returns for its 18th season with free music every Thursday from January 16 through April at the Yuma Palms Regional Center (1305 S. Yuma Palms Pkwy) starting at 6 p.m. KYMA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Bhupinder Singh, an assistant professor at the University of Arizona, is using the LI-COR 6800 to study how romaine lettuce and other crops grow in Arizona’s landscape, including in Yuma. His work aims to improve crop management by determining the best times to apply new products. KYMA
- ➤ Arizona Western College has been awarded part of a $3 million grant from the BuildItAZ Apprenticeship Initiative (the only academic recipient) to expand its construction and technical training programs at its Wellton campus. The funding will help bring more employers into apprenticeship partnerships to meet the state’s projected need for 20,000 construction jobs by 2030. KYMA
- ➤ Arizona Superintendent Tom Horne announced a partnership with ASU to address teacher shortages and boost math and literacy outcomes in rural and high-need communities. The collaboration will expand access to high-quality instruction and college-ready coursework (enhancing local education resources). KYMA

- ➤ The Housing Authority approved key transactions for a 200-unit affordable housing project planned at the former Vista Alternative High School (located on South Madison and East 26th Place) to address the city's housing need, and the design phase will begin soon. KYMA
