Arizona Western women's soccer wins Region I and hosts the West District final Nov. 7

Arizona Western College women's soccer is Region I champion again. The No. 1-ranked Matadors beat No. 8 Eastern Arizona 2-1 Saturday night at , erasing the sting of last year's regional championship loss. Abril Aguirre scored 49 seconds in, and Giovana Coutinho made it 2-0 in the 84th minute.

Eastern Arizona answered less than two minutes later with a late goal by Airi Kusahara but couldn't catch up. The Gila Monsters now wait to hear about a possible at-large invitation to the NJCAA national tournament.
